Bruxism is the action of clenching or grinding the teeth, commonly caused by stress. Often this is done subconsciously without even realising. Classically, this habit is reported by your romantic partner who can hear you doing this in your sleep. Or if maybe reported by your dentist who reports wearing away of your back teeth, requiring you to wear a mouth shield at night to protect your teeth from the grinding. Clenching can cause tension that can sometimes lead to headaches. By injecting small doses of botulinum toxin directly into the masseter muscles (the jaw), the muscle will be weakened enough to stop the clenching of the jaw and grinding of teeth. Muscle relaxing injections are a very effective treatment for Bruxism.
All our treatments are performed by Dr. Michael Aicken. Dr. Aicken is a GMC registered Doctor and GP, he has 14 years of experience in advanced medical aesthetics. He has been teaching his own techniques to thousands of trainees from around the world for the past 12 years.
How long does the treatment for Bruxism last?
As with all Toxin injections, results last for 6-12 months, and can be topped up if needed.
Will it hurt?
The needle we use is 32G, which means that it is the thickness of human hair. In addition, we also use anaesthetic cream for all injections, which further optimises the experience for our clients. Additionally, as Dr Aicken has vast experience in injecting Botulinum Toxin and so his injection technique will also limit discomfort.
What is the downtime?
The Toxin will take 1-2 weeks to take full effect.
What will it cost?
Botulinum toxin for jaw clenching and teeth grinding is the cost of two areas of botulinum toxin due to the dose required compared to treatments in the upper face.
Our toxin prices are £160 for 2 areas or £199 for 3 areas.
